March Break Boredom Busters!

March break is here! It is a welcome break from the routine and we always look forward to it. Inevitably, though, there is always a day or two in there that makes me wish I had planned an at-home activity to break up the week (and keep whining to a minimum). Here are a few ideas:

1. Have a theme day! For example, declare backwards day, camping day (set up a tent indoors, make smores in the oven, make a pretend campfire, and tell some campfire stories), or pajama day (wear pjs all day, eat cereal for lunch, watch a movie, work on a puzzle, play some boardgames).

2. Channel your inner mad scientist with these fun but simple science experiments. Or give your kids a few ingredients (salt, cinnamon, sugar, ketchup) and a large cup of water, and let them create their own witch’s brew.

3. Head to your favourite box store (mine is Patafie’s) and buy one or two large boxes (think fridge size!). Help your kids cut out the necessary windows and/or doors, then step aside and let their imaginations take over!

4. Head outside! Our days always turn out better if we are able to spend a good chunk of time outside. Here are some ideas to encourage your kids to get outside. Or get them to complete a nature scavenger hunt as you take a walk outside. Another idea: grab a camera and let your kids take pictures of your walk. Develop them or print them out and create a booklet!

5. Take it easy! Don’t feel like you have to jam pack every day so that it’s the best March break ever. It’s been a long winter and everyone is feeling a bit weary. Be sure you and your kids have lots of time to laze about, daydream, read, or even nap!

What are you and your family up to this March break? Do you have any tried and true boredom busters of your own?
